About me

Student teaching in 5th grade at Raleigh Hills in Beaverton

I am a Midwesterner at heart, but have grown to love the Northwest.  I lived in Bettendorf, Iowa (part of the Quad Cities) until heading to college at Miami University (Ohio).  My husband's and my families continue to reside in Iowa and we make our annual trip to the warm Midwest each summer.   At Miami, I pursued a marketing degree while competing in cross country and track.  I worked in marketing for several different companies including Nike.

Teaching is a second career for me and I'm so glad I chose to complete my master's of teaching at George Fox in 2011!  When my twin boys arrived, I was able to be at home with them for several years.  As a stay-at-home mom and frequent classroom volunteer, I found out how much I enjoyed working with kids.  I am licensed to teach grades 3-8 and have endorsements in Language Arts (grades 6-8) as well as reading (grades K-12).

My first teaching job was at Deer Creek Elementary as a part-time teacher of math, science, health, social studies, and reading.  The past two years I made the decision to substitute teach in private and public schools grades K-8.  I recently finished a long term substitute position as a literacy specialist at C.F. Tigard Elementary.  This is my third year of teaching and I feel blessed to have a job I love!

When I'm not working, I enjoy: spending time with family and friends, running, playing and watching sports, traveling, and reading books.  Although I enjoy all school subjects, literacy is a passion of mine (note the background of my blog).
